What Makes a Porta Potty ADA Compliant?
It comes down to space and reach, not just a bigger box. ADA Standards section 304.3.1 calls for a 60 inch diameter turning circle inside the unit, enough room for a wheelchair to rotate fully. The door opening has to clear 32 inches per section 404.2.3, wider than the door on a standard porta potty rental. Inside, operable parts like the door latch and paper holder need to sit within the forward reach range set by section 308.2.1: no higher than 48 inches, no lower than 15. Section 309.4 adds that those parts must work with one hand, no tight grasping or twisting, and take no more than 5 pounds of force. Floors have to be stable, firm and slip resistant under section 302.1, which matters on the gravel and dirt lots common around construction sites in Tempe Junction. How Many ADA Units Does a Job Site Need?

ADA Standards section 213.2 sets the 5 percent minimum for clustered single-user units, so a bank of twenty standard toilets needs at least one accessible unit alongside them, and a bank of four still needs one. That rule sits on top of, not instead of, the general toilet-count math in OSHA 1926.51(c)(1): one facility for 20 workers or fewer, then one toilet seat and one urinal per 40 workers as the crew grows past that, and one per 50 once you hit 200 or more. Does OSHA require ADA-compliant porta potties?
OSHA's toilet-count rule, 1926.51(c)(1), sets ratios by worker count but doesn't itself specify ADA dimensions. ADA Standards section 213.2 is the source for the 5 percent accessible-unit requirement. Most job sites in Tempe Junction need to satisfy both rules at once, not just one.
Can I rent just one ADA unit for a small event?
